At last I was able to do some Back to School price comparisons. For parents who’s younger ones have gone back to school this week, or going next week, a few Rands saved per product can add up to quite a bit of money.
To my surprise Diskem was the cheapest on almost everything that they advertised. Bic Pens, Tipp Ex, Artline Markers, almost all Bostik products, Pritt and Scotch tape where all cheaper than Pick n Pay, Checkers and Game.
Second on the list is Checkers. They obviously have a much bigger range than Diskem, so if you only want to shop on one spot, Checkers is the place to go. Pritt 43g, Man United Book covers, Jiffy Slip-ons and Plastic Rolls, Flip File, Bic Clic, Steadtler Math set, Oxford Math set, MonAmi Wax Crayons and Steadtler 10 + 2 Pencil crayons is definitely cheapest at Checkers.
At Game you will find the following to be the cheapest – Typek paper, Bostik 2 pack clear tape, Steadtler 140mm scissors, Steadtler eraser and sharpener, Bostik 100g Prestik and Pritt 500g Play Dough (very very cheap at R12.99). I don’t think Game will be the cheapest one stop shop, but the items above are definitely priced best in the market.
Pick n Pay was quite disappointing. They seem to have been the most expensive on everything. They offer triple points on the complete catalog, but that will still keep them in last place.
It has to be kept in mind that I only looked at the branded products. A lot can be saved by buying House Brand products, but at least the above should be a good indication of where you will find the cheapest House brands.
