All you have is R5000 to spend for a TV and Home Theatre, what do you get?

I thought it would be a nice change to put down a small challenge this week.  If you only have R5000 that you can spend on a new 40″ TV & Home Theatre System, what do you buy?

I had a look at what was available for the ads breaking tomorrow and found that only 3 retailers can give you this option, with some decent product, see below:

Pick n Pay Hyper

AIM (ALCD40S) 40″ Full HD LCD TV @ R3999- + Samsung (HTD330) 5.1 Home Theatre @ R999- = R4 998

The AIM TV at Pick n Pay has 2 x HDMI Inputs, come with a 3 year warranty, R500 wall mount bracket and you get 20 000 bonus points on the TV (equal to R200)

House & Home

Telefunken (TLCD-40FHDB) 40″ Full HD LCD TV @ R3999- + Samsung (HTD330) 5.1 Home Theatre @ R949- = R4 958-

The Telefunken had 3 x HDMI Inputs and 1 x USB Input, but only has a 1 year warranty

Game

Telefunken 40″ Full HD LCD TV @ R3799- + Samsung (HTD350) HDMI Home Theatre System @ R1 199- = R4 998-

As above the warranty of 1 year is dissapointing, but here you can get the HDMI Home Theatre that will really enhance the use of your new HD TV.

By just looking at the above and taking into account my budget set of R5000 the Game option has to be the best.  A nice 40″ Full HD TV with a HDMI Home Theatre System

BUT

I do think I will jump in between retailers though.  I really am worried about the warranty of the Telefunken (only 1 year) and if I am going to spend R4 000 on a TV I do expect a little more, so here is what I will do.  Buy the AIM TV from Pick n Pay Hypermarket (R3 999, with R200 back in Shopper Points) and the Samsumg HDMI Home Theatre System from Game (R1 199).  This will still keep us inside our budget.

Happy Shopping!!
